***A Steamy Regency Romance***
A straight laced governess and a handsome rake. Opposites most definitely attract.
.
Devlin Beaumont’s liked being a rake. Whiskey, women, and fun, what more could a man want? All that ends with an unexpected title, three young wards, and a beautiful governess. If that wasn't enough, there is the minor detail that someone is trying to kill him.
Rebecca Jones has to be ever mindful of society’s expectations. As the governess to three young girls, she must set an example. A requirement that is sorely tested with the arrival of the new Duke.

After reading a few chapters, I stopped and searched to see if this was the author's first book. I was surprised to find many other works by Snodgrass. I was totally blown away by some of the great reviews. The spelling, punctuation, and improper word usage is more like that of a 4th grader. I had to reread sentences to make sense of them. Then I realized that this author often feels the need to chop one sentence into two. A good proofreader could have worked miracles on this story. The characters were good. The plot was good, but predictable. (The 'villain' was obvious from his first appearance.) I would suggest that, along with a proofreader, the author do some research into the era before writing another 'Regency.' This book had the potential to be an excellent read. Instead I just found it to be a very frustrating one.
Sexual situations will offend some readers.

Confronting a Rake A Rake Redemption Book 1 edition by GL Snodgrass Romance eBooks Reviews
Confronting a Rake by G.L. Snodgrass is a quick and easy to read Regency romance that includes a bit of mystery, and a lot of physical attraction (including explicit scenes). I liked both lead characters (Devlin and Rebecca), but the plot was pretty implausible as well as predictable. I did really appreciate the epilogue, which made the ending more satisfying. Unfortunately, the edition I downloaded could have use a good proofreader, because the constant errors were annoying. I really like Ms. Snodgrass' books, but this one was just okay and forgettable.
Not a terrible story, but the ridiculous number of misspellings significantly impacted the work. This was a very formulaic romance with enjoyable characters. If you aren't bothered by editing issues, you might enjoy this work.
This is the only book I've read by this author, and probably the last. Her storytelling was fine, although this story has been told many times. What made the book unsatisfactory was the misuse of words. Not once or twice, but scattered throughout. Peak for peek, for example.
What really got to me was axle spelled axel and axil. Can't blame that on autocorrect. I'm amazed to see that G. L. Snodgrass has a long list of published books. Has no one told her she needs a proofreader or editor?
The answer on 'who did it' was completely obvious when the character was introduced, however it was interesting (and a bit of a let-down) on how it was figured out and confronted. It was a quick and easy read, which is a good thing when life is complicated, however the grammar and spelling was atrocious. There was one word I actually had to think about for a while before I figured out what word it was supposed to be, as it wasn't even close. "Deshelled" instead of "disheveled", "axil" instead of "axle". It was really difficult to focus on the story when I felt like I was proofreading instead. Obviously, there was no editing, and the publisher should hang their head in shame. I certainly won't purchase another book from this publisher or this author.
This book contained both romance and suspence. Rebecca is a governess in charge of the Duke's three daughters. When he unexpectedly dies, Devlin inherits the title. Not wanting the inheritance, he tries to turn it down. After realizing he can't, he decides to go into the country to inspect the country estate with his two best friends. After discovering that he can't marry off his new wards, he decides to do what he needs to do before going back to London. He becomes besotted with Rebecca and attached to the girls without realizing it. A series of mishaps makes the new Duke realize that someone is out to get him. Devin is more concerned with something happening to Rebecca and the girls than to himself. Watching Devin put his life in danger in order to protect her and the girls, Rebecca decides that she was wrong with her first opinion of Devlin. The attraction is there between them but they don't know what to do about it. When they finally give into temptation, one freaks out and the other doesn't know how to get more. I have to admit that I never would have guessed who the person was that was out to get rid of the Duke and why. I think the ending could have been stronger but overall the book was enjoyable to read
I don't often post a negative review, but this one deserves it. The spelling, grammar, and attention to detail are atrocious from beginning to end. Periods are used instead of commas. Commas are used incorrectly. Incorrect words are all over the place--evidently the author hears a word and puts it in without checking to find out what it means, or puts in a word that sounds close to what she means to say, but the one she uses is not the word that belongs in the sentence. The plot is okay, but not well-developed. I won't be reading anymore of this author's works.
The story was predictable, but I still enjoyed it.
However, the grammar, spelling and punctuation throughout the book was totally unsatisfactory. It was like it was written by a 10-year old.
, you should do better when you put a book on your site.
